A 340 miles from Cape Horn
Hello everyone!
We started yesterday afternoon we crossed the Drake towards Ushuaia, after long study of weather files, not really very encouraging to each other! Finally, we then resigned and went with the wind rather unfavorable (North), but not too strong, allowing us now to make a shift to the NW, so be ready tomorrow to accommodate the flow of WSW fort we should get on and we grow a little faster to Tierra del Fuego.
If all goes well, so we should double the Horn Tuesday and Puerto Williams in Chile rally Wednesday, the last scheduled stop before returning to civilization in Ushuaia. For now, our daily lives is heeled, and hectic, not too many, but enough for some of our teammates are affected by the pernicious seasick
Also, life aboard comes down to taking long naps in the quarters and warm in his sleeping bag ... at least until the sky opens and the temperatures are warming! In ATTEDIT, life goes on, and the show is still gripping the bar as the flight of albatrosses captivates us, day after day.
Greetings nautical

Waiting to Deception

Hello!
We arrived yesterday morning at dawn to Deception Island a very special since This is a volcano whose crater collapsed here over 10,000 years, the latter being thus invaded by seawater The show is quite fascinating, because everything around us rise the peaks sprinkled brown black snow-covered or downright small glaciers.
After a windy day yesterday, the weather has softened and now we are still lucky because it is a beautiful blue sky watching over us. We have therefore taken the opportunity to go and discover the remains of the former base of Norwegian whalers, settled here from 1911 to 1931. This base was then occupied by the British as part of a surveillance operation named Tabarin, from 1944 to 1945, then in the context of scientific research.
is finally a series of volcanic eruptions between 1967 and 1969 which were due to this basis, while a mudslide has significantly damaged the buildings, leaving no other choice than to men settled here spinning . So it's a stroll through the history we have just done, full of amazing discoveries, whether the remains of barracks, a half-buried tractor, whale bones and numerous whale, or the huge vats oil or wooden barrels that would have aided in store whale oil.
Along the beach, it is not unusual to see adorable little chinstrap penguins, whose facial expressions do not we tired! To complete the picture, many lichens carpet the rock, giving here and there colors ranging from green to red, passing by the ocher. A feast for the eyes ... or objectives of photographers!
short, our stay was very nice, as usual, and we feast! This is a good thing, because here we expect the good weather window to cross the Drake and rally Patagonia in good conditions ... and the famous open window does not appear until Sunday at the earliest! So by then, fingers crossed ... and you can appreciate, of course!
I leave you on these kind words, and gives you news very soon!

Hello!
We left the lovely anchorage Cuverville yesterday morning after a lovely stop, because the wind gave way to a beautiful sun, and this charming little island has a beautiful colony of Gentoo penguins, what delight photographers and other designers ! It's the ice that we finally drove the anchorage in the morning upon waking, icebergs having accumulated on our line ashore and threatening to break the ...
Finally, this impromptu departure is dropped, since we were able to sail under cover of a breeze and this time with great visibility, which was far from being the case the day before ... Afternoon, the wind has disappeared again, and we finally joined the surprising wetting Enterprise engine.
I say surprising because this anchorage is in fact a former shelter once used by whalers and where we come dock-side of the wreck a collector of oil. A nice dip in the past, because above the wreck which gives the place a totally surreal side, we discover at the discretion of the islands many remnants of the heyday of whaling: anchors on the rocks, pieces chains, and mostly very nice whale, extraordinarily well preserved despite the years spent on site to be covered by snow!
It was therefore well feasted on this show, which was further spiced up a little surprise, that a meeting with a fur seal, the only species that we did not cross far. In short, we went to bed blessed yesterday after a great day. And as here, the day is a little permanent, well this morning, the captain woke us up very early, around 4:30 in the morning to enjoy the beautiful day that pointed the tip of his nose. His departure surprised at dawn did not seem to taste some, but my goodness, that's life, group life, it's not always easy ... and the position of head either!
We sail on time so it is very nicely in the Strait of Gerlashe ... not very fast as the breeze dies down, but under a blazing sun! We are heading on Deception, where we will await the perfect weather window to cross back.
In the meantime, I wish you a great day and see you soon! Greetings from

Hello!
is Sunday for us aboard the Paradise, and just imagine that a few details, it almost look like a Sunday cushy home, as we have just finished a snack in front of slippers the fireplace of our small stove ... It must be said that this afternoon, the wind suddenly rose, accented with beautiful snowflakes, and very quickly, instead of Cox was more coveted then we draw the edges (square!) Against the wind . It must be said that in Antarctica, where the wind blows, it's very cold soon! After a short struggle, so we decided to turn back and have sailed on the beautiful anchorage Cuverville Nest superb Papuan penguin colony.
But back a little behind, since we had parted a few days ago while we enjoyed a sun extraordinary Pleneau. Well after Pleneau, we went to greet our friend John's Boulard, who was himself a little more wet near the northern anchorage where Charcot had wintered with the French in 1903. This brief detour done, we joined our little favorite anchorage south of the Paradise Bay, our beautiful boat anchor which owes its name.
This will probably make you smile, but we were soon joined by another boat - still friends! - Which are coming on board an aperitif and tell us their stories. On Saturday, a small gale of NE was announced, so we planned a short 5 miles to navigation rally based Chilean Gonzalez Videla, where we were greeted like royalty after a quick visit, where we had time to watch the amazing penguins leukocytes, number 3, which are curiously all white ... but not because they are not albinos with red eyes. The chicks in this colony were young, and it was as always a pathetic spectacle than watching these little animals singularly human behavior ...
After dinner, Claude Arnaud and I have to go ashore to visit a second time to grassroots members and celebrate the weekend! It was a funny evening frankly, since our friends we have made to participate in karaoke, just imagine the scene ... then we will walk in Antarctica find themselves singing in English or English songs we do not know, you still have to do it! The general delirium, but above all great moments for us all ...
short, we do not get bored on board and ashore, and my faith, we will not complain! Tomorrow we are heading on Enterprise ... I say no more!

Hello!
We are sacred little lucky, since it is now two days since the sun is firmly installed above our heads, and I can not tell you as completely transforms the landscape here. Sublime, sublime is going super! Words are weak to describe the landscapes we cross quietly to the engine, lack of wind!
Yesterday we left the American base at Palmer after sharing lunch with the team on site. It was very nice to be back together in the middle of this small microcosm clock operation carefully, and discover a little about this particular universe. The base is very well stocked, however, everything must be thought out and studied in case of problems, so that the survival of the 45 people staying there can be insured incident. So a good meeting and an exchange really interesting, thanks to the wonderful hospitality offered by the base manager.
In early afternoon, we headed for the Straits of Lemaire, nicknamed Kodak Valley, since this corridor enclosed by high mountains offer, for days like we had yesterday in particular, opportunities for decision- many views ... and no it is not denied! To perfect a little thing, the way was littered with glass, and we had to play ice-breaker and push a little growlers to go.
A feast for the eyes, and a late arrival to the Ukrainian Vernadsky Base, where we found a lot of friends who were wet ... the corner is starting to be pretty busy! Magnificent sunset and then a beautiful light with the full moon ... the dream!
This afternoon, after a walk on shore, we returned to the North Cape and came to anchor Pleneau the footsteps of Captain Charcot, close to the anchorage where he wintered. Anchorage striking if any, and again, we meet friends ... which are in time on board now feeding us amazing stories of their winter here even thirty years ago ...
So sorry, but I'll go listen! I'll be back soon to read our adventures!

Hello!
We left at noon the beautiful anchorage of Port Lockroy where we landed yesterday late in the day ... and what a day! Leaving Melchior, we had the chance to see many whales, surfacing occasionally only a few meters from the boat. The weather was beautiful, a little gray, but without a breath of air, which is quite nice in the corner because he did best on the deck when the wind does not blow.
The sky finally cleared in the late afternoon, and under a bright sun that we embouqué Neumayer Channel, sumptuous small passage between two islands and snowy peaks. Memorable moments for everyone on board, while we zigzaguions between small growlers so as not to damage the hull of our little paradise.
Cameras strafed every moment that some prefer to immortalize by a simple glance. Antarctica has the power to make people very contemplative. Look ahead here, it makes them happy. A simple pleasure, because of surreal landscapes, an avalanche of white and blue. A beauty contest between icebergs. The process of little penguins or touching their tremendous speed when moving under water. Leopard seal contentment that comes to rest on a piece of ice after a good hunt. The astonishment in her eyes when the baby penguin discovers the world while her mother frees her coat protective shadow of a moment. The smile of visitors who are amazed by this magical show and wonder if tomorrow will be even more beautiful ...
I think so, tomorrow will be more beautiful. Here, every place is safe, every place is different is the emotion that emerges is that this beautiful wilderness. Or is adventure. Oh what the hell, it's beautiful, that's all. And we're glad to be here! Tonight we'll be wet in Palmer, before the American scientific research base, we will visit tomorrow morning. And since starting to be known around the corner, and although it has even been invited to have lunch in the database, which promises to be interesting, and is somewhat unique because share the table of scientific Antarctic Peninsula, well this is not given to everyone!
short, life is beautiful on Paradise, no need to ask ... Following a few days!

Hello!
We just left the fabled fountain of Melchior towards Port Lockroy, a bit south. Here two days since we arrived in Antarctica, and believe me, the magic is still there! We were not Only when we arrived Saturday night at anchor, as two friends were already boats anchoring, but shaking a little, we kept all our wonderful little far away. In addition, they did not stay long, and Sunday morning, we had all the new anchor for us!
yesterday, so we made a day off, what a little rest after the voyage, and especially the opportunity for all team members to explore this strange world that surrounds us here in Antarctica. It must be said that Melchior, the framework makes everyone agree fast enough sumptuous ice cliffs surround the boat from all sides, falling from such meringues over the sea is yours breathtaking, literally. No photograph can make the magic of this unspoilt area .. . And yet we've taken pictures since we came here!
But resuming. So we spent the day yesterday exploring around the set, in small groups. The opportunity to get acquainted with the local wildlife, a few penguins solitary or in pairs (can be on honeymoon?), And many seals, Crabbers, Weddel, and even a number of Leopard Seals. I stopped immediately, the name is breathtaking, but the animal less, because with his reptilian snout and sharp teeth ugly, this one is a little less cute than her fellow pack ...
In any case, images in the eyes and the head full of snow, we are all sleeping head in the stars last night, all happy as he could touch the magic of nature. Here in Antarctica, it really touches the exceptional, no doubt. And we are very happy to touch it, then do not worry, we did not miss a beat, and I will do my best to tell you all!
Tonight we will be at Lockroy and our teammates will discover with happiness the first large colony of penguins. So I stop for now and will tell you tomorrow or the day after our encounter with the penguins!

I Bend Over And It Hurts My Penis
Still red ... Red Riding Hood
... and still knitting!
This gift-there was a command that was eagerly awaited for several months ... The girl had already eyeing Moonlight sonata, then Aeolian before asking me if I could knit just for her. Suffice to say she was thrilled by surfing with me on Ravelry to choose its own model.
His choice fell on Haruni [Ravelry link], along with its beautiful leaves (the proof that you can have 9 years and a lot of taste). I had carte blanche to the thread: "I trust you, there are too many beautiful colors." I chose the fineness of the alpaca cloud from Knit Picks in a bright red delicately mottled (tango heather).
His only regret: it also pleases his mother, who was chipper after 5 minutes!

Hello!
Here just 4 days since we left Ushuaia, and we are already on the other side of the legendary Drake Passage. Excuse me for not giving our news before, but just imagine that for the first time since I sailed in sailing, I spent 3 days in difficult head to head with a bucket ... everything happens even seasick! Finally, seasick or not Moreover, it is a mystery, but the fact is that I was not very fit and well definitely not fit enough to put me behind a keyboard and strum.
Still, we're left Tuesday afternoon in favor of a favorable weather window, and that the crossing has been linked without a shadow of a concern. The cold has gained momentum and we look like every day a little more massive Bibendum, but beyond that, not much new!
Every morning we feast performing impromptu we give the number of birds inhabiting the Drake: Cape petrels, albatross, Storm petrels, giant petrels, etc.. It is an endless waltz that we see daily, and for the world we would not change our place for this show then.
At this hour, we let our first island to port, and watching for icebergs ... Discrete this year! The sun bathes the day in a beautiful light and we enjoy a breeze for us to run into evanescent image d'Epinal without unduly disturb the tranquility of this painting. In short, we come into this very moment in the magic of Antarctica ...
I leave you with these beautiful thoughts, and you rewrite quickly for you tell our landing, scheduled for tonight on Melchior, and obviously the result of our adventures!

Introduction
The return of the myths is a major event in the history of French theater of the twentieth century. There is indeed between the two world wars and the beginning of the second, rewriting tragedies inherited from the golden age of antiquity. With this return to myth leads to thoughts about the tragic genre in full renewal. Jean Anouilh wrote in Antigone that tragedy is relaxing because you know that "there is no hope, hope the dirty; it is taken, we finally caught like a rat, with all sky on his back. "
This conception of tragedy is part of a pessimistic view of human action and ironic tone of the quote makes us doubt the resting the tragedy of the issues seem to call for reflection by a distancing effect peculiar to fill the horizon of expectation of modern viewer.
Extract from the study:
playwrights of the twentieth century have not broken the narrative pattern of the original tale by cons but they dug, the more more than did Sophocles, Aeschylus and Euripides, the horror, the depth of the trap in which the characters are locked. The inevitability of fate and character of men by assimilation, is entirely in the inhuman machine for the destruction of a mortal mathematics. All the wheels are well oiled. One can not help but think of the movie C. Chaplin's Modern Times, with its huge gears that grind men never jam. Jean Cocteau made this infernal machine, the title role of his play, an allegory of the fate, destiny rose to the block, against which shatter the illusions. The same blindness governs the action of Oedipus and Jocasta in Sophocles as in Cocteau ....

For my beautiful goddaughter, a hood of Little Red Riding Hood, who serves as a hat and scarf at the same time.
According to a model Catherine Roujansky " My Little Red Riding Hood [Ravelry link], knitted No. 3 with a blend of Merino wool and acrylic: reference in Austral de Katia, color Granada (No. 25). I had just enough to finish with two balls. A simple model to knit, and makes really good I think.

How Long Does Pleurisy Take To Go Away
Rain in glaciers
Hello!
We begin our ascent at this time to Puerto Williams, after a great day out yesterday at Pia, a magnificent fjord that hides some magnificent glaciers. We can say that we are lucky from the start because the weather has left us not only for a few hours, where we hike to Caleta Olla, and this is just a little drizzle, which came to annoy us some hours.
Yesterday, a beautiful day sunny allowed us to discover all our team members some of the many glaciers that end their race in the Northwest Arm of the Beagle Channel. Believe me, it's worth coming to the region just to see the chaos of ice that finish their descent directly into the water and see how small we are next to this colossal force of nature. It is both amazingly beautiful and very impressive, a rich natural heritage, which I hope will be shared for many years to future generations, as this show is amazing.
Tonight, we will stop at Puerto Navarino, a quiet anchorage the outskirts of Puerto Williams, we need to win tomorrow to complete the formalities out of Chile before returning to Ushuaia. So it's a little late for us to travel with the team ... and soon the beginning of another, as we will leave Monday for the Antarctic with the next group. So I put the blog updated with new photos Patagones this weekend.

farm Grandfather
Since we introduced the concept of the unique gift for Christmas, I try to make an effort to find the Idea, with a capital I, not to take the risk of disappointing the recipient.
This year, the name of my (well one) big sister I pulled the hat.
easy! She loves the houses of all kinds (but especially his own), and keeps bitching against those cardboard boxes of tissues, but still very useful really ugly. Equation quickly resolved, it had only (!) To format it all:
's the tissue box version farm Grandfather, in the firs Grandfather like any self-respecting ;-). It pulls the handkerchief out through the chimney, and the next just wait his turn. And besides, it looks walking! We will use, but it did not seem obvious at all before I finished, so I still left a piece of movable roof in case.
Sorry for the pictures not great,
is what happens when it ends at the last minute
is what happens when it ends at the last minute
Once again, I am much inspired by the work of Yoko Saito and his book "full of houses . And I took the opportunity to try the Jeffytex , fleece rigid. It's great! Many held, and a lot of flexibility in tailoring, whether by hand or machine. I recommend it if you've never tried.
Rummaging through my treasure chest, I found a nice assortment of beige / brown / brick (amazing, huh?), Perfect for stone, wood or roof of the house. A bumblebee for frames of windows and doors, a few drops of lace for curtains, a triple point for small wood windows, some embroidery stitches for rose (could do better) or the foot of lavender ...
and a lot of reflection to try to find the number of openings on each façade! I forgot again, I made small balls (I put the car in the wrong garage!), But it still immediately recognized his house, and that's what counts. Last one for the road, with a small piece of the real ...
And then, all you who still have the courage to go through here, despite the scarcity of tickets and no less rare responses to your comments, I wish
very good year 2011 full of boldness and creativity!

Wihes Mail For New Born Baby
Happy New Year from our favorite anchorage of Patagonia
Hello!
Yes yes, I know, I'm a little late ... but I wish everyone a very happy new year 2011! If I've not told sooner our past adventures is that we have been busy, and for good reason ...
After the Christmas Eve Micalvi, so we sailed towards Yendegaya Saturday morning, the first Chilean fjord after Ushuaia, and our favorite spot, since we have friends who live there. The road was long, because the wind was blowing from the front, and to start the new year, our GV found spiritual battle is a few feet, forcing us to drive the motor. But weather aside, we were very spoiled, and this first day of 2011 and the next gave us a magnificent sun, a real feast for the eyes as we circulated among the snowy mountains of Tierra del Fuego.
When we arrived at anchor, our friends (Jose & Anemia) invited us to go and share an "asado" or a barbecue, they had just killed a cow yesterday. So we all feasted around a fire in an idyllic setting, with two other crews of sailing ships, while the sky was tinged with pink and kindly took over the top cool ...
Yesterday, the day has dawned on Paradise inundating us with a brilliant light, and under a blazing sun that the first 5 crew went ashore to go first horseback riding. Meanwhile, we attacked the seam on the mainsail, and the return of the first group, the remaining four have landed in our lap to go play apprentices gauchos. All without exception have enjoyed this very beautiful day and beautiful horseback ride that takes us through rivers in the heart of a nature so immensely beautiful and so pristine that it feels so good you'd think reborn .
Finally in apotheosis, our friend Marcel gave us 4 beautiful centolla (sea spiders in the area - a true delight!), The crew devoured ferociously to recover from so many emotions ... while the long process of stitching still on deck, taking turns ...
Finally, you'll understand that life is very difficult for us small Patagonian. So much beauty wears us out! Today we head towards Caleta Olla, where this time we will hike on foot to explore the beautiful Glacier Hollanda. Therefore result in a few days!
Patagonian Greetings,
Juliet for the crew of Paradise

7 Cape Horners new!

Position: 55 ° 49'S 67 ° 17W
Hello!
Well you are done, we just passing Cape Horn, and our 7 team and we are happy too, because it's always the big problem in the region ... one is never sure of having the perfect conditions to go round the Horn. The reputation of this famous course is second to none, and even if we do the legendary course that after a short voyage, and although there are times where it does not!
Still, today there was no problem, and we sailed all day long from Puerto Toro, sailing in very changeable conditions, since we had a little everything from the sun as rain, light winds as strong wind, short, typical day in these latitudes ... no time to ask two minutes until the wind turns, the water changes, etc..
It has anyway been dazzled, with frequent visits from dolphins, Magellanic penguins, albatross and other birds ruling over these lands isolated. And icing on the cake, more cloudy than sunny, so tonight, warm in the square while the crumble leather finishes, our cheeks are red and our eyes tired ... but we are all thrilled to 100% of this beautiful day.
On the rhetoric, we will sit down to eat and I'm telling you goodbye for the rest of our trip!
Greetings Cape Hornières,
